WR Frenzy

Finally, a little break from all the toil, a little window of time to wipe off the dust that has been collecting on my blog.

It's a little depressing, seeing everyone all caught up like twigs in a gushing river stream, panicking and scrambling about to get their WRs done, with nothing but that on their minds, their only purpose of existence, all cares aside. Some sinking into desperation and despair, losing grip on certainty, or even their sanity, others transforming into cold, mindless drones with engines run on hyperdrive, or a combination of the two.

This is not the first time, and this is also far from the last time. We go through this frantic motion many times a year, we just love to do it. We can't get enough of it. Who is responsible for this? The system, they resound, blame the system. This gargantuan machine, mercilessly turning its cogs, driving all of us helplessly down the path to mental destruction and insanity. Every Student a Masochist, its motto.

Yes, blame the system. We are not at all at fault for drowning in the slough that we leap into. Maybe, but we should never forgive or excuse ourselves easily, if at all. Our freedom has not been robbed of us. The system can steal our time, drain our strength, even our wallets, but it cannot take our minds. Ming Hao said that I always looked calm and concerted, maybe he's right, at least for recent weeks. It's a special privilege I have, in a sense, that I have the certainty that whatever the outcome be, it is for my good. Yet, even for the rest of us, we can learn to keep our heads, remain calm, work consistently instead of at the eleventh hour, and be like a duck. Calm on the surface, yet paddling like mad under the water.
